Nudity , don't view if offended !

I'm studying the work of Robert Liberace , a great modern day American Artist.

He sells very informative DVDs and this was a Christmas present from last year, or maybe the year before. Who's counting ?

Probably got a couple more hrs work on it, maybe not !

Hate that background

Best of 2015

It's time for my "best of the year" post.
I can't believe another year has passed ! This is my fourth "best of", I think, and I've been doing this blog since 2009. As of this morning I've had 28,478 views and created 472 posts.

Roll on 2016.

I may have duplicated the odd one from last year, but hey who's checking !

I entered paintings at the Cawood Arts Festival and gained a first and second in oils and a second in the pencil section.

Just need to crack the "best in show" next year, how nice that would be !

Waiting for the fall !

I received an email this week from a gallery in London , the Brick Lane Gallery. They've been featured on the TV show , The Apprentice and have shown work by Banksy , Wolfgang Tilman , Bob and Roberta Smith and  have sold to many London galleries including Saatchi.
That's their blurb not mine.
They said they had seen my work on my daily paintworks site and would be delighted to exhibit me in their next exhibition for emerging artists and said my work was , "fantastic and a good variety of subject matter"

Now I'm not naive enough to know that as they are looking for artists craving recognition it's easy to get sucked in and throw well earned money at them with no expense for them.

However it's not every day that a reputable gallery comes knocking on your door and its they who will have the reputation to think of if my work is laughed at on their walls.

They clearly think my paintings are worthy of their gallery although some contemporary work I see looks like it's been painted by a blindfolded chimpanzee so maybe they can't lose.

So decisions, decisions , do I spurn another offer (I spurned one about a month ago and regretted that)   Or take the plunge fork out a lot of money , speculate and hope for the best.

At the very least I am proud that another Gallery has shown some interest in me.

Now just waiting for the fall !

Captain Jack Sparrow

I've just trawled through every post to see if i've ever shown this and I don't think I have.  I did this in 2011.
It's a huge piece measuring 23x16" , probably bigger than life size, just.

Figurative painting after Jeremy Mann 2

I try to do these less and less now (copying other artists) but until I get myself a model I'll have to do the odd one. Plus he is an excellent artist and you can only learn from him.

This is an oil painting on canvas measuring 17x14 " in the frame.

Red

A little taster of my latest work in progress. Long way to go yet, especially on that pesky hand.

Lenny Henry sings the blues

This man has come a long way since his "opportunity knocks" days.

He's currently doing a programme on sky about his love of the blues.

I paused the TV for an hour and sketched him sat in a corridor speaking to the cameraman.

Little White House in Poppy field

I did this in the style of an artist whose name I've forgotten but I will add when I remember his name. In short it's not my composition.

One green bottle After Carol Marine

Another homage to Carol.

I tried this a few years ago and I'm happy to say this is a better version.
I have also realised that I posted the wrong painting yesterday , that has now been corrected !

Cawood Arts Festival

So this weekend is the 33rd Cawood Arts festival and the second year I've entered work there.

Last year was amazing when I achieved a first prize in the oils ,first in pencils drawings and first and third in any other media.
So not as well this year , with first and second in oils and a second in pencil drawing.

However there was some stiff competition and I'm very happy with the awards.

This was my first in oils , a painting that has had numerous titles since I painted it, but I seem to have finally settled on , " Contemplation"

Second prize was my Jimi Hendrix here.

And my other second prize was also a study of Jimi Hendrix.m

Happy days.

Now just got to sell a few.

Thanks for reading.

Lady grey in the frame for Cawood Arts a Festival

This may be too big for Cawood so here it is in the frame. It might be displayed at Cawoid without the frame , hopefully !

Thursday 13 August 2015

And now for something completely different..

Well not quite I've done the odd landscape before but not for a while.

This is an oil 7x5" with a mount just to frame it.

I'm quite happy with this.

This is nearly done now. Block in the rest of the purple background around his lower half and the. Finish his torso , left side and legs.

Two photos taken in different light

Jimi Hendrix

Latest oil painting I'm working on. I am in fact supposed to be doing a house and two dogs which is not going well. So I revert to what I can do. Or at least try to.

Lady and the cloak 3

This is my third (and last) version of the lady with the cloak. Thanks to Hong Ly for the photo reference from his character design website.

This is my largest painting ever measuring two and a half feet by two or 59cm x 80cm.

It's about three quarters finished.

On show at Goole

And so there they are hanging on the wall at the Goole Open Art exhibition.

See earlier posts for more information.

Thursday 11 June 2015

Goole open art exhibition.

Well I took the plunge and entered two paintings into The Goole Open art exhibition that starts tomorrow until the 4th August.

They said that if I didn't hear from them I had passed the selection stage.  I haven't heard from them so i'm presuming I have.

The exhibition is on the first floor of the library which also has the museum up there.

I entered these two paintings. Framed by Andrew Stead at The Bare Wall Art Gallery.

Splash splash meadow

We had a workshop recently with Andrew Battye who we affectionately call the splashy man due to his loose free painting style

This was my best effort.
