Kite flying 2

I'm loving this , painted using some Winsor and Newton Griffin alkyd colours.

Never used these before to complete a painting so very happy with how it came out.

Kiting from yesteryear

Do kids actually play out anymore or is there an app for that instead.
Remember those days b any chance , if you do then you are aged over 30 at least. I have to thank the man who invented the Internet for lots of things but one of them isn't the death of paying out. Or did it start with the tv. No matter go buy a kite and take your kids out ASAP.

Shadow chasing 2 (wip)

Getting into these now perhaps I should stop , this one got away from me a few times , it was originally  on a blue background but that wasn't working for me. This is looking better I feel.

Another few sessions with it and I think I'll have it cracked. I need to sort out the clothing area around the neck . looks like he is wearing a polo neck sweater, and work on the shadow, and and and !

Sky launch

Got some very kind and pleasing comments from a couple of the club members when I completed this today.

Both said I have to do it bigger though, much bigger so watch out !

This is 12x10" on a canvas board so is unframed and is acrylic.

Cloud surfing 2

I did this little fella some time ago as a small acrylic and it sold to a friend. I miss him so thought I'd do another , this time larger and in oils.
It is 12"x 10" unframed.

It looks like it is in a frame but its just sat on a black book.

I don't know if he's jumping up to the clouds or flying above them ?

He's probably a Scottish, British tennis fan, well done Andy Murray !

Which now gives me a dilemma, do I call this wee fella, Andy , Murray , Fred or Perry ?

Beachy steps

A little 8"x6" painting done this morning in acrylic. Those trepidatious (is that a word ?) first steps into the sea at the height of summer that we finally appear to be getting.

Work in progress, after Mark Spain

This is a work in progress copied from a painting by Mark Spain.

There is a story here (well not here but in the original painting).

I have left out a car parked on the beach which adds to the story.

Lots to do on it yet , hands , hair , head, the cliffs look too close , the car , add some waves, lots lots lots ......

All "four" one , one for all.

I just wanted to put these up together for a comparison. I have to choose two paintings to go into a show and can't decide. these four have made it to the final cut, so if anyone has any comments or advice please do so now and quickly. I have until the 28th May to decide and get it posted off.

I found this whilst surfing the net but cannot for the life of me remember who it was. I will keep looking to discover who it was and update it when I find out.

In the meantime , my effort looks ok if you haven't seen the original.

Cool Quick Runner

Draw every day and draw anything is what they say. I picked up a running magazine and sketched this in 20 mins or so.

Its got real movement and though its just a skecth I like it.

Nutmegged on the Soweto

I found a photo on Steve Clarke"s Flickr account ( well at least I think it was him) I surf the net looking for good photos to paint and I found this a while ago but forgot to make a note of who it was.

Anyway this is my pastel version of the photo.

Dunn and Dusted

This is a pencil study
The paper is slightly bigger than my scanner so it has let some light in at the edges, in reality the picture is much cleaner round the edge.

Arwen after Rolf Harris

This is a copy of one of Rolf's oil painting in  his book.
Arwen is Rolf's wife and he said that he just loved the little bit of light showing in her eye as she woke up.

My effort is in pastel and took about 2 hrs.

I have issues with the foreshortening of her arm but otherwise I quite like it.

Please comment if you find yourself dropping by , good bad or indifferent.

I have done this for a friend who had taken a photo of his girlfriend walking on a sunny day. I thought it was a stunning photo and I haven't done it justice here but am happy enough with it.

After Robert Liberace

I have just purchased this DVD from this wonderful artist and am waiting for it to arrive.

Three Color Chalk DVD cover

In the meantime I'm on an early shift at work this morning which means a 5.45am wake up call.
Unfortunately I woke at 0205am and spent the next 1hr 15mins  trying to get back to sleep.

It didn't work so I got up and did this.
I am hoping that having watched the DVD a dozen times I will do this again and hopefully see some improvement. (even though the DVD is on portraits and not figures )

Watch this space....
