Pencil sketch in process, when I can't get to my paints !

Back to my favourite subject and my favourite subject !

I love portraiture and Morgan Freeman just screams out to be painted , drawn , sketched etc.

I have mad him my target on more than a few occasions, he just appeals to me for some reason. 

This is a willow charcoal sketch A3 size that's just about 16 x 12 inches

This is a sketch for a painting I'm doing.cant think of a title though, any suggestions.

This is a family friendly blog ! Despite the nude archer, she wasn't that nude ! 

And this is the painting so far........

Got some work to do the hands as well as lots of other stuff but those hands ! ! Aaarrggghhh ! 

Just a few more tweaks , then ill tackle those hands , ha ! 

Brian at the North Duffied dig

I recently helped out on an archaeological dig at North Duffield and took a snap of Brian, the force behind the project as he contemplated the next step.

Cool Quick Runner

Draw every day and draw anything is what they say. I picked up a running magazine and sketched this in 20 mins or so.

Its got real movement and though its just a skecth I like it.




 

Dunn and Dusted

This is a pencil study 
The paper is slightly bigger than my scanner so it has let some light in at the edges, in reality the picture is much cleaner round the edge.

Pencil Drawing

I messed about with the settings on my camera and with the settings on my pc having taken a photo of the drawing. my original post is below. 

Still my scanner is playing up a bit and letting in light but hopefully you get the essence of this drawing.
Felt like I was having a crisis of confidence so went back to what I know best, a pencil and paper.
 

Horse sketch

Just had a little holiday and drew this horse whilst lounging on a sunbed in 30c, a far cry from the 9c temp I have come back to.

 

It was on the cover of a book I was reading, not just wandering passed the beach.

 

However this man was away with the fairies in dreamland.

His family caught me drawing him and had a giggle.

He gave me the thumbs up when he finally woke up.

 

 

 

 

Hannah Hauxwell

From the same Yorkshire Dales folk book mentioned in earlier post I found an article on Hannah Hauxwell, the lady farmer who was subject to an ITV documentary.
When she found fame I always remember that ITV commissioned an artist to paint her. He worked for weeks and had her wearing her sunday best complete with hat. At the unveiling Hannah stared at it and the world waited with baited breath for approval from this very unassuming lady.  

She pondered and then said , "I like the Hat" !

This effort of mine is a 30 min sketch that I might try again sometime with pastels.
 The weird halo type lighting is because my scanner is acting up...or is Hannah an angel on earth...!

All My Animals, real and not so....

Just thought I would put up all my animals in one place. dogs, cuddly toys (they're real right) horses, donkeys, rabbits and a cat.

Do you know who it is yet ?

Best comment of the day at the art club today whilst I was doing this.
One of the members came up and said, "Oh Karl thats lovely, Bruce Forsyth isn't it ?"

It raised a giggle, and she quicky realised her mistake.

Unfinished

Jack Russell

I was asked to paint this little lady and so did a pastel and also a pencil sketch just to get the feeling for her.
She isn't finished yet but like how she  is turning out so far.

Two Nudes

I haven't posted for a while , been so busy with work. I did these about two weeks ago and they took about 15 mins each. I was going to say they are charcoal but i'd be lying they are a dark grey pastel on pastel paper and are approx 40cm x 27cm.
It's not something I have done a lot of but all the best books and artists say you must perfect the human form.

I don't have a model so many thanks to the website www.characterdesign.com

On the first one you can still see my original line for the right side of the body (the front) but I changed it when I realized that I wouldn't get all her leg in.

On the second one , I kind of made the same mistake but I wasn't too bothered about that because I knew for the beginning that I wouldn't be getting all her arms in so missing a bit of knee didn't seem to matter too much.

Two sketches

The landscapey one was done whilst out walking in an unusual but welcome bit of sunshine we had here today.
Unusual because we are having a poor summer here in the UK so far this year
Took about 15 mins and I got a couple of laughs from some farmworkers whose path I was stood on.



 The flower one is a copy from a painting by Carol Marine.

My Boss

This is my boss, who requested this so she only has herself to blame.

I'll collect my P45 as I leave  

Wacom Sketch of Geisha

Been getting more use out my wacom tablet recently, had it over a year and still not gotten to grips with it.
This is a sketch taken from the wonderful "Paint" magazine

This is what my pics would look like  if I had the bottle to apply more depth and darkness or something.
What I have done here is open the above sketch with the windows "Paint" program and pressed the "fix" button which has made such a difference don't you think. Comments welcome
